Connect to Internet via Bluetooth with Nokia

hey david,i got a problem,and vodacom doesnt seem to help,ok da situation is for me to hook up my pc to internet using my fone as a modem and connect it via bluetooth,now i need a step by step guide,like wat program on windows xp to open and wat i must enter in da boxes and all that,pls can u enlighten me?

Method 1

Right, first install the nokia software you got with phone (nokia suite) (www.nokia.com/pcsuite).

From Nokia PC Suite it lets you dialup to the internet when your phone is connected (it will detect it).
It probably will detect the settings you are using on your phone, else it will ask you for the GPRS setttings which you already have on your phone.

Else try this if you are on Vodacom SA:

There are instructions for that on the Vodacom4me site, it’s just hidden away a little – under “pda setup” in the “my devices” menu.

select the phone make and model as the nokia 6310i, and then under “pda manufacturer”, select “laptop”. you can then choose the os version (windows only, i think), and the connectivity method you want instructions for…

*99# is the number to “dial” from a connection on your PC to your phone via Bluetooth.

Here are those instructions:

Pairing the devices

  1. On the handset, press the Menu joystick in.

  2. Scroll to Settings and press Select.

  3. Scroll to Connectivity and press Select.

  4. Highlight Bluetooth and press Select.

  5. Highlight Bluetooth and press Select. Scroll to On and press Select.

  6. Scroll to Bluetooth settings and press Select.

  7. Highlight My phone’s visibility and press Select. Highlight Shown to all and press Select.

  8. Scroll to My phone’s name and press Select. In the Phone’s name field, enter Vodacom GPRS and press OK.

  9. Press Back four times and press Exit.

  10. On the PC desktop, double click on the Anycom Bluetooth Wizard icon.

  11. The Bluetooth Wizard will begin. Click on the Dial Up Networking icon and then click on Next.

  12. Select any COM port and click on Next. Take note of the COM number, as it will be referred to in step 5 of Setting up the connection.

  13. An Information window will appear, click on OK. The software will automatically search for Bluetooth devices within range. If internet is not discovered, click on Search Again and then click on OK at Information window.

  14. Select Vodacom GPRS and click on Next.

  15. Click on Finish.

  16. Click on Yes when prompted to start the Pairing wizard.

  17. Select Initiator and click on Next.

  18. Select Vodacom GPRS and click on Next.

  19. In the Passkey field, enter a four-digit Passkey for example 0000 and click on Next.

  20. On the handset, press Accept to pair with the PC.

  21. In the Enter passcode, enter a four-digit passcode which should be the same as the Passkey specified on the PC and press OK.

  22. Press the Menu joystick in.

  23. Scroll to Settings and press Select.

  24. Scroll to Connectivity and press Select.

  25. Highlight Bluetooth and press Select.

  26. Scroll to Paired devices and press Select.

  27. Highlight the name of the device you have paired with and press Options.

  28. Scroll to Auto-conn. with-out confirmation and press Select . Scroll to Yes and press Select.

  29. Press the Back button five times and then Exit

  30. On the Bluetooth Wizard screen, click on Exit.

 

Setting up the connection

  1. On the PC, click on Start and then on Control Panel.

  2. If necessary, click on Switch to Classic View.

  3. Double click on Phone and Modem Options icon.

  4. Click on the Modems tab.

  5.  Highlight Generic Bluetooth Modem on COM (X), where X will be replaced by the COM port number noted in step 12 of Pairing the devices and click on Properties.

  6. Click on the Advanced tab.

  7. In the Extra initialization commands field, enter at+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet and click on OK.

  8. Close the Phone and Modem Options window.

  9. Double click on Network Connections icon.

  10. Click on Create a new connection.

  11. The New Connection Wizard will begin, click on Next.

  12. Select Connect to the Internet and click on Next.

  13. Select Set up my connection manually and click on Next.

  14. Select Connect using a dial-up modem and click on Next.

  15. If there are any modems previously installed, the Select a Device window will appear. Ensure that Modem- Generic Bluetooth Modem with the correct COM port in parenthesis is the only option ticked. Refer back to step 12 of Pairing the devices.

  16. Click on Next.

  17. In the ISP Name field, enter Vodacom GPRS and click on Next.

  18. In the Phone number field. enter *99# and click on Next.

  19. In the User name field, enter (please leave this field blank).

  20. In the Password field, enter (please leave this field blank). Enter the same (please leave this field blank) in the Confirm password field and click on Next.

  21. Click on Finish.

 

Making the connection

  1. On the PC, the connection window will appear.

  2. If prompted, in the User name field, enter (please leave this field blank) and in the Password field, enter (please leave this field blank) .

  3. Click on Dial.

You will now be connected to the GPRS service.
